Holmes first contact with Granger’s Consultancy Services was through our interest in environmental matters and attendance at the Glasgow Caledonian University.

As a practice, we had for many years operated a quality management system that broadly complied with the requirements of the BS EN ISO9001 quality standard, but we had been reluctant to take on what we saw as the unnecessary administrative burden that external assessment and registration would impose. Having met and spoken with Derek, the Managing Director, we understood the synergies between BS EN ISO9001 and BS EN ISO14001 and with a changing marketplace and with our own and the increased public perception of environment issues we took the decision to look further at compliance with both standards.

We therefore employed Granger’s Consultancy Services as a Consultant as we believed their approach would tailor processes around the way we worked, rather than imposing additional requirements on us.

As an early task, a ‘Gap Assessment Profile’ was undertaken, which identified where, in the current Holmes quality management system there were areas that would prevent full compliance with the requirements of BS EN ISO9001 and BS EN ISO14001 quality and environmental standards. In this exercise, we confirmed our belief that Granger’s Consultancy Services approach was ‘right’ for us and would deliver processes that would work for us and not introduce unnecessary or over lengthy procedures.

From this, working closely with Granger’s Consultancy Services, we were able to redraft an Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS) which was assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of the Quality and Environmental standards by NQA in December 2008. We continue to be impressed by the support and guidance we receive from Granger’s Consultancy Services; by the ‘light touch’ compliance has on our operations and the positive feedback we received from NQA.

Granger’s Consultancy Services has an ongoing commission from us to develop and update our system processes through the auditing of our system to an internal audit programme.

Hillhouse Quarry Group

Hillhouse Quarry Group has used Granger’s Consultancy Services to Hillhouse Quarry Group logo assist with the production of quality manuals, auditing and general quality consultancy. Granger’s Consultancy Services was instrumental in the process of Wm. McMillan Rome achieving ISO 9001and Hillhouse Contracts department gaining ISO 9001 sector 16.

In addition Granger’s Consultancy Services has supported Hillhouse Precast Concrete in reviewing their quality processes towards the installation of a Factory Production Control system for the manufacture of the precast units. This has led to noticeable improvements in the quality of the precast units. With the support of Granger’s Consultancy Services Hillhouse Precast Concrete anticipate achieving ISO 9001 certification.

Mr. Granger conducts business in a very professional manner and is very informative in all aspects of quality issues. Since engaging the services of Granger’s Consultancy Services the added value of our products and services has been immense. This far outweighs the cost of the services provided by Mr. Granger, which in turn are very competitive, in this sector.
